Jamaica, kingston

Day 1 will be a meeting of the VPH working group, at which each subgroup (rabies, Salmonella and Leptospirosis) will report on their workplan and activities since the last meeting in September 2013, and develop new workplans for the next 2 years.

On days 2 and 3, we will have a workshop to develop guidelines and protocols for integrated Salmonella surveillance and risk reduction strategies on poultry and egg farms. All members of the VPH working group will be asked to present information on their countries’ Salmonella surveillance and risk reduction programs (and results) on poultry and egg farms.

According to CAREC’s (now CARPHA) food borne disease surveillance data, the leading cause of food borne illness in the Caribbean is Salmonella, that is frequently contracted from poultry and poultry products. The workshop will be held in Jamaica, and will include representatives from the regulatory authorities (represented by the CaribVET Veterinary Public Health Working Group) and the poultry industry.

The programme will be later posted on the website.
