Summary: 

It was conducted from 2 to 4 December 2009, the first training on tracking outbreaks of swine diseases in the Dominican Republic, organized by the control and eradication of CSF program in DR, USDA-APHIS, IICA and the VEP project. (5 sessions between december 2009 and May 2010 were organized).

 

This training took place in the province of San Francisco de Macorís in the northeast region of the country, it involved all the regional veterinary officers working in different animal health programs, where implemented what they learned about research disease outbreaks and monitoring of cases, similarly, was done a presentation by Dr. Amy Delgado, leader of the project team VEP (IICA) on risk communication and how this is perceived by the producers where participants learned tools to conduct a good interview on the field.

Objectives

The general objective of this training was to apply the knowledge learned in the workshop for tracing outbreaks of CSF and the workshop on CSF and swine diseases.

Specifics objectives

• Apply the correct procedures for sending samples to the laboratory

• Implement tools learned on tracing animal diseases outbreaks

• Use the information research and search information about the disease

• Use and fill out properly forms for notification, reporting and monitoring outbreaks, which are part of the animal surveillance system

• To understand the concept of risk communication and how it is perceive by the producers as well as the tools to know for an interview on the field

• Apply appropriately the hierarchy to follow when an outbreak occurs

• Unify criteria to make decisions with a common goal within the group

• Prepare properly reporting the results of investigations
